What's a Marimba?

ummm...that big thing in the corner?

How many times have I heard this question from parents of eager students ready to dive head first into the world of percussion.

"Well..." I respond, "it's kinda like a big Xylophone that costs around $11,000."

Most parents stand confused as to why anyone would ever spend so much on an instrument that you whack with sticks until they hear sound emanate from the resonators of the deepest notes.  I have yet to meet someone that hasn't fallen in love with the sound of Bach and Debussy as it flows from the deep hardwood of a great marimba.  With this in mind, we at Hand Made Percussion set out to make these instruments available to all.

With the materials coming from local vendors and the marimbas being assembled by hand here in Pittsburgh, our goal is to provide an opportunity for youth and musicians of all ages to have access to these wonderful instruments at an affordable cost.

If you are interested in bringing local marimbas into your program please contact us right away!
